Emergency Behaviour Management Service!

Do you have a dog or cat with behaviour concerns?

We are here to help!

The first step in a behaviour treatment plan is environmental management. Environmental management is changing your dog or cat’s environment to prevent them from performing or engaging in certain behaviours. This is a crucial step in any behaviour treatment plan and is the first thing that needs to be put in place to ensure the behaviours that you are wanting to change are not being rehearsed and strengthened.

We offer Emergency Management Sessions at our Arana Hills clinic or via Zoom. No behaviour concern is too big or too small. From basic training or children and pets’ education to aggression and separation related issues, we see it all! With a compassionate and empathetic approach, we will work with you to investigate possible reasons why the behaviours you are seeing are occurring.

The Emergency Management Session is run by a qualified behaviour coach/trainer and will go for 1 hour. During that hour, the behaviour coach will do the following things:

  • Review the pre-visit questionnaire and collect a brief history of the behaviour concerns and other relevant information needed to come up with behaviour management recommendations for your individual animal.
  • Observe the animal’s behaviour and how they are interacting with the new environment.
  • Discuss canine/feline body language and how animals communicate, as wells as pointing out what body language they are observing in your pet on the day.
  • Discuss recognising signs of escalation in behaviour and the importance of intervening early.
  • Offer recommendations for environmental management strategies for your individual animal’s behaviour concerns taking into consideration the humans involved in the animal’s life.
  • Discuss with you, recommendations on future behaviour needs whether it is behaviour modification sessions with a trainer or if a veterinary behaviour assessment is warranted in your pet’s case.
  • After the session you will receive a summary of what was discussed.

If you are overwhelmed with your pet’s behaviour, please reach out to us at Healthy Pet Behaviour Services so we can help you and your family understand your pet better.

Research Project exploring factors influencing Owners' decision-making around dog walking

Dr Bronwen, in partnership with the University of Lincoln, is running a research project looking into some of the factors that affect dog owners' decisions about walking, or not walking, their dogs.
The outcome of the study may aid in highlighting factors which influence implementation of veterinary advice, and lead to further research in how to tailor treatment plans for dogs and their owners, to lead to better outcomes for dogs and owners.
The survey is anonymous and open to anyone over 18 years of age who currently owns a dog.
Your contribution will be very much appreciated!
